Getting Started

I’m Lizzie and I’m a runner. Somehow it doesn’t sound quite right. Although I’ve been running marathons and ultra-marathons for 4 years now and this year completed the exceptionally tough Lakeland 100, in my head I still feel more casual jogger than (not so) lean mean running machine.

I was gripped by the distance running bug 3 years ago when I decided to get myself fit enough to do a marathon as an incentive to get back in shape following the birth of my second child. Having completed that marathon I started to wonder, “could I go even further?” And it turns out I could! My first ultra marathon was the 35 mile Round Ripon Ultra organised by Go Beyond and the emotion and sense of achievement when I crossed the finish line was so amazing that I was hooked.

A bit emotional at the finish of the Round Ripon Ultra (my dog Bamber was part of my support team – he hadn’t done the whole thing!)

I have now developed a passion for exploring the more remote and hilly areas of our beautiful country, both in ultra races and on my own adventures, and have completed around 16 marathons and ultra-marathons, including UK classics such as the Fellsman and Lakeland 50 and 100. All this is fitted in around life as a Mum to two young children (currently 5 and 4).

I hope to use this blog to record my running adventures for my own enjoyment and perhaps along the way to interest and inspire a few others to pursue their own dreams and adventures.
